OUR BUYING POLICY: TRACEABILITY, QUALITY and ETHICS
Many of the varying products you see in the shop throughout the year are grown here at Castle Farm or produced locally in the Darent Valley. Other products that we cannot grow here are sourced, wherever possible, from local producers. In summer we often collect fruits and vegetables direct from other growers thus ensuring they are as fresh as possible. We also work closely with certain suppliers to develop new products such as our lavender-flavoured ice-cream, cakes, marmalades, chutneys, soaps and candles.
When we need to go further afield for our supplies, we try to buy direct from other farmers whom we know personally or who have developed a reputation for their quality and service. These are often small businesses who, like us, are enthusiastic to promote regional produce which is not available in the supermarkets.
When buying items made abroad, we seek out businesses operating on Fairtrade principles whenever possible so that we can benefit local communities elsewhere.
Our aim is to provide you with the best of everything if you have any recommendations of products that we should sell or suggestions as to how we can better improve our service, please let us know.
