HOME-GROWN
As many products as possible are supplied direct from the farm.
BEEF -
reared in the meadows here from animals selected for their meat quality and then hung for three weeks to fully develop the flavour and tenderness. Available as roasting joints, succulent steaks and tasty burgers.
NORFOLK ROYAL APPLES -
a rare variety that you won't find in any supermarket, grown for its crisp juiciness as a fresh eating apple. Cox and Norfolk Royal apples are available direct from our orchards in the autumn.
APPLE JUICE -
a delicious blend of Norfolk Royals with local Bramleys to give fresh-tasting juice popular with all ages.
HONEY -
from hives located on the farm and in our lavender fields.
PUMPKINS
organically-grown edible and decorative varieties.
HOP BINES -
grown for beer-making at Castle Farm for over 300 years and now dried for decorative use indoors.
FLOWERS -
specialist varieties dried with award-winning expertise!
LAVENDER and ROSEMARY -
another specialist enterprise producing bunches of cut lavender, lavender heads and pure essential oils and culinary essences. These are used by other local artisal producers as ingredients in toiletries and distinctive lavender foods such as biscuits, fudge, marmalades, cheese, ice-cream and chocolate.
SPECIALITY TEAS -
produced exclusively for The Hop Shop by a local master tea-blender - a selection of herbal and traditional teas, some with lavender, all top quality.
LOCALLY PRODUCED -
We buy local produce whenever possible.
SEASONAL FRUITS and VEGETABLES -
asparagus, strawberries, cherries, gooseberries, plums, pears, bramley apples, cobnuts and sweetcorn.
DAIRY PRODUCE -
local cheese, butter, yoghurt and Willets Dairy ice-cream.
BOTTLED DRINKS -
'Kentish Hills' pure spring water and Chegworth Valley local pear juice.
JAMS and CHUTNEYS -
'Wooden Spoon' jams, 'Darenth Valley Chutneys', 'Merchant Farmer' marmalades and mustards.
BREAD and CAKES -
'Daizylake' and Plaxtol Bakery.
SAUSAGES, BACON, EGGS and CHICKENS -
local sausages, bacon and ham, organic eggs and free-range chickens.
MEAT PIES -
predominantly using Castle Farm's succulent beef .
GIFTS -
selected cards and glass jewellery.
FARM DIRECT
If produce is not available locally and we need to search further afield, we try to buy direct from other farms or small producers whom we know and trust to provide us with top quality.
TYRRELLS CRISPS -
potatoes grown and fried on a farm in Herefordshire and winners of many awards.
GARLIC PRODUCTS -
from specialist growers on the Isle of Wight who are leading experts on garlic and have a regular stall at London's Borough Market.
SMALL COMPANIES
We like to buy from small companies who care about their products and produce simple well-designed packaging.
BAY TREE, QUAY INGREDIENTS, ESS FOODS, TRACKLEMENTS, YORKSHIRE SOUPS etc -
all small companies specialising in wholesome food products.
CARDS -
purchased direct from individual artists running their own companies - Simon Drew, Jane Hickman, Andrea Bates, Emma Ball, Calligraphic Cards, Alex Clark etc.
TOILETRIES -
selected because of the quality of the ingredients - soaps from the Celtic Herbal Co, toiletries from Fikkerts, Claire Leavey, etc.
ETHICAL CRAFTS
We like to stock a small range of natural giftware mainly craft items which we hope are both stylish and a little unusual and which, whenever possible, are bought from small individual businesses.
St. Eval candles form Cornwall, silk and felt bags from Nepal, woollen blankets from Yorkshire, carved and wirework birds and animals, and baskets which are both elegant and practical.
